What is meant by self-cleaning in the context of public tendering?

Self-cleaning is the process a company uses restore its integrity and to sustainably prevent serious misconduct or criminal offenses being committed. In individual cases, a company can avert exclusion due to unreliability in terms of section 125 of the German Act against Restraints of Competition (GWB) through sufficient self-cleaning. However, the public client has a margin of discretion as to whether the measures taken were sufficient.
