What are the ILO Core Labor Standards?

The core labor standards of the International Labor Organisation (ILO) comprise social standards designed to ensure decent working conditions and adequate protection at the workplace. They were established in a declaration of the International Labor Organisation (ILO) in 1998 and contain the following four basic principles:

  • Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  • Elimination of forced labor
  • Abolition of child labor
  • Prohibition of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation
