What is the Bitkom Declaration of Commitment?
The Bitkom Declaration of Commitment has been published by the German Federal Government within the framework of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP). It was developed by the Competence Center for Sustainable Procurement (KNB) for the Procurement Office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BeschA) together with the German digital industry association, Bitkom. This is a declaration of commitment to comply with labor and social standards in public IT procurement to protect workers in supply chains.
The declaration of commitment requires suppliers of IT products, IT services and software to observe fair working conditions. Among other things, the ILO core labor standards must be observed, as well as standards on occupational health and safety, minimum wages, limits on weekly working hours and social security provision.
